Julia Peirone – I am not blonde

I am not blonde - 28/1-18/3. Norrtälje Konsthall proudly displays the artist Julia Peirone's exhibition I am not blonde.

Julia Peirone's visual world is mainly populated by girls or young women. Her work reflects aspects of vulnerability, shame and sexuality in an age heavily influenced by social media and its impact on the creation of identities. The artist is looking for the gap between reality and construction. Julia Peirone's work asks questions about the strengths and limitations of the photographic image and how we encounter ourselves in them. Modern visual culture favors self-glorification and an obsession with abstract ideals of beauty. In her photography, Julia Peirone focuses on these performances to explore young, mostly female teenagers searching for identity. Peirone's work has a closeness to the moving image. Her photo series often show casting situations and preparations. retakes, fleeting moments and failures are given a prominent position. The images can hardly be defined as portraits in the conventional sense; rather, they examine mental states and visual conventions that reflect the demands of the external world. The photographs often capture the frustration young women experience after being shaped by certain ideals. The relationship between the model and the photographer, as well as between the viewer and the viewed, is an aspect of several images by Julia Peirone. Their eyes almost never meet. The girls' eyes are closed or hidden by their hair. Tight tops and short skirts expose the skin. The artist emphasizes that "the girls in my pictures are victims of a gaze, but they are also strong and have power over your gaze". rather, they examine mental states and visual conventions that reflect the demands of the external world. The artist emphasizes that "the girls in my pictures are victims of a gaze, but they are also strong and have power over your gaze". as well as between the viewer and the viewed, is an aspect of several pictures by Julia Peirone. Their eyes almost never meet. The girls' eyes are closed or hidden by their hair. Tight tops and short skirts expose the skin. The artist emphasizes that "the girls in my pictures are victims of a gaze, but they are also strong and have power over your gaze". as well as between the viewer and the viewed, is an aspect of several pictures by Julia Peirone. Their eyes almost never meet. The girls' eyes are closed or hidden by their hair. Tight tops and short skirts expose the skin. The artist emphasizes that "the girls in my pictures are victims of a gaze, but they are also strong and have power over your gaze".
