Emma Bjurström b. 1986
Emma Bjurström was born in Uppsala, Sweden.
Lives and works in Virrestad, Sweden.
Bjurström graduated from Gerrit Rietveld academie 2014, and has since then used mainly painting as her medium. Her paintings testifies how artifacts and symbols from the past can be re-interpreted, re-evaluated and brought to new life. What once was has been transformed. Through detailed studies, enlarging objects from the past, It is a way of revitalizing what has not been in the spotlight for a long time, and also highlighting the developing expansion between different eras. Objects are able to gain renewed meaning in a new millennium.
Through her art Bjurström gives birth to new ideas, realizations and relationships via the old materials or ideals. In a world that according to our collective mindset is dualistic, these things have to stand in dialogue with each other. Bjurström communicates this via her painting, but also so much more.
