Since 1977, a large part of the work has revolved around the colors yellow and black. Yellow and black in combination. An energetic contrast that also created a new way of looking at the world. The work with the yellow and the black started with a desire to include color in what had previously only been black and white. Black is black and got to stay. White is white and leaves everything open to change. Finding an equivalent to white in the color spectrum was not difficult. The brightest color is yellow. A high-intensity energy-rich frequency that both gives and takes; which is needed but also constitutes a threat, a danger. Something we have to protect ourselves against. But without whose presence we would go under.
"I started experimenting and putting the colors next to each other. Clean colors without a conscious plan. Simple brushstrokes. Fundamentally. Quickly saw that this was similar to something else, something I had seen before. A pattern appeared when I alternated between yellow and black and yellow and black. A pattern, a signal that was already out there, out there in the world, asserted itself. Warning signs in the subway, along roadsides, in factories, at airports, construction sites, around power plants, in stairwells, yes everywhere where human activity has emerged in the cluster that we usually call social life. But also ancient as in the heraldry, patterns and symbols of ancient Egypt, China, Japan. In the military history. In the civil. Mix the animal, actually also mix the animal. The insects. And more."
