In the image universe of Timothy Crisp, timeless views are depicted of what has been, what is, and what will be. All while the motifs are shrouded in misty gloom. While they are not dispersed, but on the contrary shine clearly, the fog may denote the mystery they possess. Initially they may seem uncanny or even downhearted, but they are not performed with sorrow in thought or action but rather we see them as such, since society willingly hides away the wretched and the despairing. Perhaps it is also eerie to gaze into the crystal sphere and be evoked of what it has been like before, and that the future appears lurid because we think it is dystopian. Nature's cycle so worksthat death awards life. The microogranisms that feasts on the dead leaf do not see it as ferocity but preferably this activity eventually discharges in the flowering bird cherry. With blackness and precision, Crisp captures this in the reverse glass paintings as he depicts the path of things.

Bodies, cross-sections, inventions and scientific objects are depicted using a mirrored technique wherein Crisp scrapes down to the glass, adds colour and then rubs in pigments. Display cases or vitrines catches the eye, and what is exhibited therein is not concealed but is for everyone to behold. Crisp's glass performs in a similar fashion since everything is carved, incised from the rear until it is visible through the glass. This adds curiosity to the motif that comes first in Crisp's process, and lastly the background is completed. It is the technique that impels him onwards. The traditional perspective of visual art with depiction as objective is challenged in his own visual world; the techniques with which he executes the works are in fact the works themselves, but it nevertheless becomes a accomplished image in the end. But for Crisp, the study of the technique is one of the subgoals.

The 2020 exhibition displays new works depicting cross-sections and architectural 3D overviews of survival bunkers, life boats and monastic cells. The latter has since ancient times been found carved into the mountains, lofty and beyond reach for the common man. One went there for seclusion and asceticism. The monk's cell is observed from the inside but Crisp exposes with his reversed glass paintings its architecture and overview, thus sheding light on what had previously not been the spotlight. Similarly, there are bunkers mantled in secrecy with military strategic positions in mind. They are blasted into locations designed not to be seen nor understood. In the nature of bunkers and monastic cells camouflage is inherent, like secret underwater caves impossible to explore or to find. Crisp produces them from the outside according to his own imagination and explores the essence of the camouflage through the paintings. His inverse perspective constantly calls for a sober evalution of the state of things-an uncovererd bunker; the theme from Crisp's other series of dystopian images that were, nevertheless, not created with dystopia as a model. The works show the cross-sections and findings. You can never see the outside from the inside and vice versa, but the entirety of the study becomes a mental 3D sketch where everything is laid bare, and Crisp builds a type of timeless memorial grove.

The architectural elements are represented both figuratively and abstractly in Crisp's act. Complex geometry meets the opposite in multidisciplinary picture craft. In the spirit of our time, when so much is about idleness and vulgarity, his images become a crystal clear reminder of the righteous cruelty of time and that the struggle againt putrefaction and leakiness cannot end in anything but the unvarying cycle of nature. The monk's cell remains in the rock no matter what happens in the future. Desolate zones and constructions are and remain in our world and though no one may hear or understand their avail, they whisper that they are there.
