Julia Bondesson, Light at Kungsbacka Konsthall

18 November 2023 – 14 January 2024
Borgmästaregatan 6, 434 32 Kungsbacka

The sculptural meets movement, the weight of the body and the gravity of the ground.

Julia Bondesson's exhibition explores the articulated wooden body, a theme that has followed Bondesson's artistry for the past decade, where carved wooden sculptures are chiseled out with traditional tools and techniques. She gently brings out the poetry in the body, where each sculpture has the opportunity to go from limp and lifeless to full of movement and resilience along the human body's wide range of motion.

In A Fragile Position (2022), 10 sculptures tackle the weight of the body and the gravity of the ground, all in different ways and where the wood of the bodies is joined by joints, ropes and knots. Strange Fruit (2023) consists of several circular disk-shaped reliefs, as well as horizon lines of hessian disturbances. In the sculptural collage Sunlight/Moonlight (2023), neon drawing, sculptural sketches, figurative elements and geometric shapes are mixed. Each sketch depicts a movement of its part of the human body and together the exhibition invites its viewers to reflect on the artistic differences between the base material wood and the living neon.

Something is added to give new energy, and maybe even add something new to the story.
